The Huda Beauty Obsessions Palettes have welcomed 5 new limited edition members to the team. The Topaz and Amethys palettes consists of 9 neutral inspired colors, in a lovely compact case. Huda Kattan, the founder of Huda Beauty described these pallets as “really condensed eyeshadow palettes but you get so much product”. The Topaz palette has tons of mattes and shimmers to play with, and is reminiscent of the festivity of fall and pumpkins. While the Amethyst palette is a purple lover’s dream!
I really wanted to give people the option to have fun with as many colors as possible without having to invest in individual shades. It was all about giving color junkies everything they need, in a compact way. — Huda Kattan
Huda Beauty Topaz Obsessions Palette ($27USD/$35CAD)
Lets start with the Topaz palette, the consistency of the eyeshadows in this palette truly ranges, unlike my review of the Gemstone palette; I found this one to be a bit underwhelming. The mattes are not very pigmented, and although the shimmers are gorgeous, buttery and creamy to the touch- they are not the best shimmers that exist in my collection. You really have to work with these shadows in order to make them work, and build up the pigment and color intensity.
When I think about a travel sized palette, I think about convenience and an “on-the-go” approach, which means I want to be able to do my makeup quickly without an excessive amount of blending and application. A full size palette such as the Huda Beauty Dessert Dusk or Rose Gold Remastered is about 2.5X the price of the Obsessions line. This line is a budget friendly alternative for makeup lovers, and allows us to attain the Huda experience of her well known stunning shades and rich pigmentation. I feel that if you’re interested in the Huda experience it would definitely be a great idea to try out the Smokey palette, as this palette is versatile, and has the neutrals, mattes and shimmers.
Huda Beauty Amethyst Obsessions Palette ($27USD/$35CAD)
The consistency of the eyeshadows in this Amethyst palette is much like my views on the Topaz palette. The mattes are lackluster and are not very pigmented, and some of the shimmers are blinding and truly beautiful. In this palette, even some of the incandescent shimmers are lacking the pigmentation that I am used to with the Huda palettes. In order to get some pigment, you should be wetting your brush, or using your finger for eyeshadow application; this can be time consuming and personally is not what I look for in an eyeshadow palette.

Although I am in love with the color range in this purple palette, I find myself not reaching for it because of the amount of work I have to put in, to get the pigment that I want.
Final thoughts
Topaz - When this palette came out I was very excited to give it a try as I was expecting the quality to be the same as my other Huda Obsessions palettes (Smokey). I was disappointed in this palette as I felt that the mattes really needed to be worked with, rather than blending effortlessly. I feel that although the price point is reasonable, and this palette is travel friendly the other palettes in the collection are much more enticing, and a better investment.
Amethyst - I have plenty of purple themed palettes that do a great job and are pigmented, blend well and can create a flawless look with minimal effort. I find that I reach for those over this palette. I really wanted to love it, but unfortunately I would say that if you’re debating pass on this one. I hope that Huda goes back to the formulation of her Smokey palette from this Obsessions line, as I’ll be needing a backup of that one, seeing as I’ve hit pan!
